My creative process is a lot of experimenting, I like to take a project and make it my own through the colors and shapes chosen. I enjoy moving quickly through my work, not comparing mine to other peoples because we’ve all got to be a little different, yet I am open to becoming inspired by other artists work.
My favorite project in my portfolio is my landscape. This is because of the colors, all of the bright and different values of green make me happy along with its analogous color blue, which also is featured many times in my painting in many different shades. I feel it is my strongest composition because of the texture and the natural form design that makes the trees and flowers look more realistic. The landscape was also one of my favorite projects to make along with the ceramic vessel because painting was a way to express myself though colors and texture.
Beginning a new piece of artwork is always hard because there is so much I want to accomplish in a piece. For example when I begin thinking of ideas for my pot I just want to get right into the good part of building and designing, but I have to follow all of the steps assigned to complete the project correctly. Ending artwork is also very difficult for me because I want to keep going! When I was near the end of constructing my ceramic vessel I didn't want to stop building, that why it is so big! This same feeling came across when painting it, I didn't want to stop after adding the black so I went for red, and when I finished the sgraffito of the main snake, I decided to add a baby snake on the handle also.
The type of materials I like to use are the hands on kind, for instance applying paint to a canvas or object and constructing pots and other 3D objects. Creating something out of clay or any materials feels very fulfilling. Texture is a big part of my identity as an artist. Most of my favorite pieces I have created are not the norm, for example my pot (aka Bertha) is not smoothed to perfection like most other peoples but, it has undeniable character. Another example is my landscape, not many people made the water colors thick for texture, but I did as scene in the trees and flowers.
